Project Brief
Pembroke & Bull Contracts Ltd was appointed by HBS to undertake specialist external decoration and conservation works at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club, a prestigious private members’ club set within historic parkland in Denham. Originally established in the 18th century, the clubhouse and surrounding structures required a sensitive approach to preserve their architectural character while maintaining the high aesthetic standards expected of the venue.
Historical Context
The Buckinghamshire Golf Club is set within a landscape of historic significance, with buildings that reflect traditional craftsmanship and classical detailing. The works were undertaken to protect and enhance these features, ensuring that the external appearance of the club remained in keeping with its heritage setting while prolonging the life of the building fabric.
Scope of Works
Built in the 18th Century, the Buckinghamshire Golf Club project encompassed the application of decorative finishes to existing soffits, facias, windows, and masonry work, utilising high-quality Dulux Paints. Additionally, comprehensive DOFF cleaning was conducted on all roof areas and bridges. The endeavour was undertaken to uphold the aesthetic standards befitting the esteemed stature of this beautiful golf club.
Key Challenges
Maintaining the visual quality of the golf club while carrying out external works required careful planning and sequencing. DOFF cleaning techniques were selected to minimise impact on historic substrates, and works were coordinated to ensure the continued operation of the club with minimal disruption to members and visitors.
Overall Output
The project was completed within the four-week programme and to a high standard. The completed works enhanced the appearance of the clubhouse and associated structures, while protecting the building fabric and preserving the character of this historic golf club setting.
