Project Brief
Pembroke & Bull Contracts Ltd was appointed to undertake decoration works to The Bottle Factory SE1, a 126-year-old industrial building offering a distinctive working environment defined by volume and historic character. The property comprises approximately 32,234 sq ft arranged over three floors with an additional annex, requiring careful consideration to preserve original features while upgrading the building for its next intended use.
Scope of Works
Painting & Decorating works started on the 11th Jan 2021 and comprised of decoration to the following areas:
Spray finishing to all internal and external UPVC windows
Decoration to ground floor, first floor, and loft areas within the former factory spaces
Decoration to the annex, formerly used as the bottle house
Key Challenges
The character and industrial features of the building required a sensitive approach to ensure original elements were retained. Bare brickwork finishes were achieved using diluted paint mixes, which required strict consistency across batches to maintain a uniform appearance throughout the building.
A mixture of diluted paint was used on bare brickwork which had to be of the same consistency on each batch to provide a uniform finish.
Key Challenges
The project was completed in line with the agreed programme and within budget. The completed works successfully retained the building’s historic character while delivering high-quality finishes suited to its new commercial use.
